From India, With Love

And I’m finally back! How’s everybody’s summer going? I don’t know about yall, but that trip to India was exactly what I needed. I feel so refreshed and I’m ready to get back to business. I made so many friends and memories there. Exotic is not a strong enough word to describe it.

I ended up going to 4 places in India. First, of course, it’s capital, Delhi.

It was an amazing city and all I did was shopped till I dropped. There’s no dearth of malls and the exploding variety in Delhi. I was totally floored.

The night life in Delhi was a sight to behold. The energetic vibe was all you needed to get high off the atmosphere. It was enough to keep me going all night! All in all, Delhi was just astounding.

Next stop, Lucknow. Now, unlike Delhi, this was not a metropolis. It was more of a cultural city. It’s rich heritage and history was palpable in every street, building and monument.

Museums, parks and architectural sites filled me with so much wonder and I gained a lot of unforgettable information about this ancient city’s past. I was pleasantly surprised at the kindness, generosity and friendly nature of the people in this city and I was less than willing to leave.

Displaying image.jpeg

After that I flew to Mumbai, the city where all the magic happens. They say Mumbai is the city of opportunities. Where everyone gets a second chance. It is an industrial hub. Luckily for me, it rained a lot in the few days that I visited, so it kept me from being too homesick. It was a very busy city with so many people with so many stories. In one word? Incredible.

Displaying image.jpeg

And last but definitely not the least, the highlight of my trip, Goa. This was, without a doubt, my favourite place in India. With its unending and refreshing greenery, rolling hills and breathtaking lakes and beaches, it was certainly a sight to behold.

Displaying image.jpeg

From cruises to improptu flash dances and the fun and frolic that the peoples’ vibes emit, this place was unforgettable.

Displaying image.jpeg

Displaying image.jpeg

Displaying image.jpeg

Not to be outdone culturally, Goa also offered a variety of forts, museums and churches brimming with interesting historical backgrounds.

Displaying image.jpeg

And let’s not forget the stretches of beach and all the fun that comes with it!

Displaying image.jpeg

Displaying image.jpeg

And believe me, you have not truly lived until you have ridden an actual elephant. My mind was literally blown.

Displaying image.jpeg

I even went kayaking, hiking and paddle-boating! Not to mention, the churches and museums. Only Goa could make field-trip-like spots like that interesting.

Displaying image.jpeg

And of course, some days, all I did was lie out by the poolside with a drink.

Displaying image.jpeg

From little streets and allies, to malls and spas, India truly had me blown away. I hated leaving.

I can’t wait to go back…

Stay adventurous,

From Croatia, With Love

“The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”

Most recently, I visited Croatia with my family to catch a break from all the stress life’s been throwing at us lately. Moreover I made an effort not to go to an over-advertised tourist city this time. From London to Paris to Rome to Milan. You name it, I’ve been there. But hardly ever have I been to a country where the aura was quite so relaxed as Croatia’s was. I instantly fell in love.

I firmly believe that wherever one goes, one must go with all their heart. Wanderlust drew me to as many of its cities as I could visit in a week and a half. First stop, Zagreb. Untainted artistic beauty.

From it’s beaches to its nightlife, this city had me totally blown away. All I know was that I had never seen a place that unbelievably fascinating. It was miraculous, the way this city bewitched me.

The thing that caught me most was the Museum of Broken Relationships, which was an establishment unlike any other in the world. It housed relics and information about failed relationships of common Croatians, who had donated these to the museum.

Coming to Croatia in the summer was like inspiration. Night time is when Croatia came alive. Under starry covers is when all the magic happened. Next stop: Plitvice. Here is where we went on an exotic 8 km hike and got pelted with hailstones. Truly an unforgettable experience.

Last stop: Split. From the Croatian National Theatre to amazing football stadiums and arenas, the streets of this city were full to bursting with lively energy.

Reasons Why I Hate High School

Well, ‘hate’ is a probably (OK, definitely) a strong word for it. In fact, high school has been one of the most memorable and fun times of my life. I’ve made some of my best friends here and had the most crazy memories ever. But that doesn’t mean it was all a joy-ride. And let’s face it, nobody wants to here positive anecdotes. So, here we go!

_____________________________________________________________________________

1. Getting Up Early

This isn’t specific to high school, but you catch my drift. You hear that damn alarm ring and you just know you’ve got that jungle to go to where ‘survival of the fittest’ is the motto. Getting that warm blanket get ripped off your body is probably the worst part of the day though.

_____________________________________________________________________________

2. Annoying People

Maybe it’s just me, but, to be honest, it’s like the population of annoying and/or stupid people in our school is just increasing every year. Isn’t school supposed to be a learning environment? Isn’t it supposed to be interesting and fruitful? How are you supposed to fulfill your expectations as a student when there are idiots all around you? Non-existent morals, bad music taste and stupid questions – just a few of the things that surround you on a daily basis at high school.

______________________________________________________________________________

3. Homework

Ah, homework – the work of Satan that is enforced by teachers all over the world so as to bring the hell that is school to your home. Just peachy. And it just increases in high school. Aint life wonderful?

_____________________________________________________________________________

4. It’s not Hogwarts

Do I even need to explain? The pain, the agony. *sniffs* I need a moment.

_____________________________________________________________________________

5. Evil Teachers

OK, I’ve had my share of life-changing teachers but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have those cranky evil teachers that are just never happy no matter what you do. You may be Hemingway himself but that essay still deserves a B– just because. These are the teachers that put Lucifer to shame with the amount of homework they hand out, the lack of motivation they give and all the of hall passes they don’t provide.

_______________________________________________________________________________

6. Final Exams

Unless you were one of those freaking geniuses at school, you know what I’m talking about. Just thinking of the final exams gives me a headache and knots up my stomach. It sucks for us students and the teachers get a kick out of getting us to do more work for extra credit. It’s just labour. Slave labour.

___________________________________________________________________________________

7. Recess

Now you must be wondering, “What sucks about recess?” Yeah, it’s the one time when you can leave all the studying bullshit behind and bitch about your classes to your friends. The only sucky part is that there just isn’t enough of it. I mean, 15 mins just isn’t enough to fully explain the depth and breadth of  the problems in my life to my friends! Who’s the genius who made that rule?! Like,

______________________________________________________________________________________

That’s all for now. And yes, I know I haven’t posted in, like, two weeks and I’m so sorry about that! I’ve been too loaded up with work (which is still on-going) and so I’ve written this post in a hurry as well. I’ll try to get back on schedule ASAP!

Stay amazing!

Obsession of the Week : Memory Palaces

So here’s where my geeky side comes out. Oops. Sorry I’m not sorry. If you don’t like it, turn away. Recently, I’ve started going through noticeable phases in my obsessions. They don’t always last very long, but last week it was Rubik’s Cubes and how to solve them (yes, I did it, in case you’re wondering. I can solve any 3×3 cube in under 30 mins now. That’s kind of slow compared to many, but I just gave myself a week, so I can’t really expect much) and this week it’s Memory Palaces. In case you’re wondering, this is just a trick that can drastically improve your memory.

fangirl

Of course, I got this idea from Sherlock (the Season 3 finale episode goes into somewhat of detail about it) and I just had to see what it was all about. And then I became obsessed. As usual. (It’s never moderation with me, it’s always I’m absolutely infatuated or I really couldn’t care less *sighs dramatically*)

dogs

So anyway, being the weirdo I am, I decided to share with the world the exact extent of my geekiness and tell you all about Memory Palaces (and how to make one, if you’re interested – so that we can go be psychos together, doesn’t that sound like fun?)

First of all, the thing I started off with was this video of Joshua Foer on TED. In case you don’t have time to go through the whole video, let me try and condense it for you as fast and simply as possible. Basically, the idea of a memory ‘palace’ has been around for thousands of years – the Greeks used it to remember long speeches – entire books, even! Back then, they didn’t have smartphones and, as such, they needed to remember things without aids.

So basically how this works is that you have to choose a place in your mind that you’re very familiar with – like your home or school or office or whatever. Any place that you know like the back of your hand. A place that you’re intimately familiar with – the sounds, smells and look of that place should be firmly embedded effortlessly in your mind.

dogs

Say, for example you take your own house. Plan out an exact route you’re going to take around your home. Lets say you start with your door and step into your foyer or hallway or whatever. Your shoe rack follows, then the kitchen, the living room, the master bedroom, the basement, your room, and so on. Map out the exact route you’re going to be mentally taking and firmly plant it in your head. Try not to deviate much.

Then take a list of things you want to remember – like a grocery list and try to place these things in your memory palace. Let’s say, for example, you need to remember to get some carrots, cottage cheese and a new screwdriver (I don’t know, Im just being random here). Now instead of just placing these things in your memory palace, you need to make them memorable – so that they’ll stick in your head.

dogs

For instance, you can imagine two giant carrots, dressed in tutus playing the trumpet and opening your doors for you with your neighbours pointing and laughing. Now that’s hard to forget. Next, imagine as soon as you get in, you smell a rotten stinking stench of cheese way past it’s expiry date and when you look on your coffee table, you see Miley Cyrus licking a hammer. You can probably see where I’m going with this – the more whacky and crazy – the more likely you are to remember it.

dogs

And that’s basically how it goes. The more you practise the better you get at it. You can put tonnes of information in your palace and in fact, you can have several palaces. There’s this Tumblr post I found that was really helpful that you could check out by clicking here. Hope you guys loved testing this out as much as I did!

How I Became A Sherlockian

OK guys, it’s confession time. I can’t keep all these feels in me anymore. I’ve got to let it all out and I’m going to do it no matter how hard or long it is. This is the story of my absolute and complete, irrevocable and total obsession with Sherlock. (Oh and for those of you who don’t watch BBC’s Sherlock, I just, I have nothing to say to you…Go and get your arse off that chair and watch it…NOW!) Oh, and P.S. this is me going on full-on fangirl mode, so unless you’re ready for that, I strongly suggest you stop reading at this point. Like, now.

sherlockbbc

Recently (and by recently I mean from September 2013) I started watching this modern rendition of A.C. Doyle’s Holmes (which I LOVED reading as a teenager) and absolutely fell in love. I cannot even begin to describe the number of hours I should’ve been studying for my exams or doing something infinitely more important but was watching/fangirling over Sherlock instead. And the worst (or best, if you take it my way) part is, I’m not even sorry. I regret nothing.

sherlockbbc

First of all, cheers to Moffat and Gatiss for making this series so mind-blowingly amazing and heart-stoppingly interesting. Oh, and kudos for hiring the sexiest guy on the planet (with a voice so deep and creamy and full-on Alan Rickman-y that it takes your breath away) as Sherlock – Benedict Cumberbatch. And of course, the always lovely Martin Freeman who plays Dr. John Watson.

sherlockbbc

And of course, which fangirling session is truly complete without describing in loving detail, my OTP (excluding CumberChris or Denedict – which is me and Benedict Cumberbatch :3 ) which is Johnlock (John and Sherlock) and Sherlolly (Sherlock and Molly Hooper). Sometimes, I end up watching Sherlock curled up in an intense ball of feels shipping my OTP so hard that I start to tear up. No, I don’t need medical attention. It’s just another day in the life of a fangirl.

sherlockbbc

For those of you who are still reading this, this means you’re a Cumberbitch (fans of Cumberbatch) or Sherlockian and thus, share my feels. This also means that you must be a pretty hardcore fan, because if you’re not, you must not have watched the Reichenbach Fall and the AGES of waiting before they explained how Sherlock survived the fall. And if you didn’t stop reading, because here come the spoilers.

sherlockbbc

I have a love-hate relationship with Moffat and Gatiss for making us wait so long (till Jan 1, 2014) for Season 3. But, as usual, the explanation of the fall, Johnlock’s reunion and everything in between was just fantastic. And the way Gatiss incorporated every single OTP in our fandom in that one episode? Wow. It’s like he just ransacked the tumblr of every Sherlockian. Oh and of course, Sherlock’s best man speech at John and Mary’s wedding (that successfully forever shattered the Johnlock shippers) brought me to tears (with laughter and feels – oh, the bromance). I still have my Sherlolly ship left, though (though at this point, I think I’m going to sink with this ship as well, seeing as how Molly was recently engaged).

sherlockbbc

Oh and you have plenty of reason to love Benedict even if you’re a trekky (Star Trek fan). He played the badass ‘Khan’ in Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013, and boy was he good. Goes to show you how rightful I am in this love and admiration of him – he can play a badass just as well as a ‘on the side of the angels‘ character (if you know what I mean – and you will, if you’re a Sherlockian).

sherlockbbc

OK, I think this is a logical stopping point because I’m bursting with feels just writing about this and I better leave before the hyperventilation starts. More later, guys!

Stay beautiful,

Deliya x 🙂

How To Make A Girl’s Day

So recently someone emailed me asking  how to make a girl feel special. I don’t know if this person asked as a friends or if this person likes a girl and wants to let her know she’s more than a friend to him. In any case, I thought I’d lend a hand to all those guys out there who’re wondering how to make their best girl friends or their girlfriends feel special. No matter who you are, here are some ways to make a girls day.

1. Compliment her

lifeasiseeit

This one’s simple and outright and pretty much obvious. Ever girl wants to and loves to be complimented (who doesn’t?). Whether this is your girlfriend (or someone you wish was your girlfriend) or yourfriend, the simplest way to make her smile is compliment her. Now be sure to space out the compliments. Don’t just pour them all into a a paragraph and make it all awkward. Just lay them on from time to time and she’ll definitely feel special around you. Another thing is to make sure you don’t only compliment her on her body or looks. I mean, those are nice and all, but maybe a little compliment on her personality or her eyes would feel a bit more warm and from the heart?

2.Surprise her

surpriseher

A girl loves nothing more than proof that you’ve thought about her while she wasn’t in front of you. Make sure you know her well enough to get her something you know she’ll totally love. Maybe she’s a girly girl and loves bracelets and necklaces? Or maybe she’s a tomboy who likes hats and skateboards. Or a chocoholic? You’ve got to know her well enough to get her something she’ll love. In fact, ever better, is when you make her a gift. There’s nothing more personal than something you grew/made/organised on your own. Thats when shit gets real.

3. Don’t lie

lie

There’s absolutely NOTHING a girl hates more than being lied to, so the simple obvious other is to not lie to her. Girls being the way they are, generally know the truth (80% of the time) so why risk it?

4. Act Like You Care…

youcare

Another simple way to make a girls day is listen to her. Talk to her, go out to eat with her, do something fun with her. In other words, show her you care. That spending time with her is something you like doing. That being seen in public with her (and not always your guy friends) is something you’re not only ‘macho’ enough to do but also love doing. Take her somewhere fun and interesting, make plans for her and listen to what she says. Girls love it when you remember the little things they’ve said earlier. It shows you were actually paying attention.

5. Always notice

newhair

Guys I don’t know why, but this is really important to a girl : always ALWAYS notice when a girl does something new to her hair or her look in general. This is essential to both your happiness and that of the girl in question’s.

6. Respect her

respect

No girl likes a guy who’s always acting like a douche or a little bit too full of himself. I mean, yes, its definitely a fact that us girls are somehow more attracted to guys who aren’t total mama’s boys (a.k.a. the infamous bad boy) but even girls know the limit to acting like a jerk. Your girl deserves to be treated with respect – whether its to her opinions and decisions or to her body and personality. Also, make sure you’re not always talking about yourself when you’re with her. Try to listen to her and ask her how her day was for a change?

7. Don’t take ages to respond

goodmorning

The last (and one of the most important) thing I’m going to tell you is to not take ages to respond to her text. You don’t seem busy, you just seem like a self-obsessed idiot. Its not nice to make a girl wait hours before you respond to her text. Another thing that goes along with this one is to send her a “Good morning” text. Let her know she was the first thing on your mind when you woke up. Girls love good morning texts, don’t ask us why because we probably couldn’t explain it to you anyway. Just do it.

weheartit

All in all guys, don’t be a complete good boy (break the rules for her once in a while) but be sweet and nice and thoughtful. Be there for her when she needs you and be patient with her (as she is with you). Stand up for her and keep her smiling and that ought to let her know you mean something to her. Hope that helped you!

Stay beautiful!

Bucket List : Part 1

It’s surprising how we often get so wrapped up in our lives that we seem to miss out everything and anything in our immediate circle of need. We’re constantly in this rat-race, this sort of cross-country marathon of never-ending competition and beating others that we forget to look around at the lovely country-side views passing us by – the green meadows, the unending blue skies, the fluffy cotton-candy clouds and the sea of pretty blue flowers. Life’s all about appreciating and enjoying the journey to our common final destination  – death – no matter who we are, or where we’re from, we’re all humbled by it in the end. And in the end, all that would’ve mattered was what you did as a human being for others, how you touched and changed their lives and how you made the most of it while you could.

typewriter

And so in relevance to making the most of life, I thought I’d jot down a bucket list, just to see how it goes. Enjoy!

1. Meet Ryan Gosling

kinopoisk.ru

OK, lets get serious. This is a serious bucket list, I’m not just kidding around, and so obviously, meeting Ryan Gosling HAS to be on the to-do. What else do we live for, right?

2. Travel The World

tumblr_mc7f2s9Bt11r9me8wo1_500

Or at least, set foot on every continent. I’ve never been outside of Britain, unless you count my trip to Paris (which you should), so yeah, that’s definitely something I would love to do. I’ve got wanderlust – big time. I just…you know, have a very busy life (as if) and so I don’t get to travel often.

3.  Climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower

view_from_the_eiffel_tower_by_qvisions-d5n44vm

I’ve already accomplished this one (that is a picture my friend Mark took from the top of the tower). I went on a trip to Paris with a couple of my best friends last year and we were all out of England for the first time and we just went EVERYWHERE and it was amazing. And in case you’re wondering, yes, the view from up there was what you would call breathtaking and what I would describe (very accurately, I might add) as asdfghjkl…

4. Spend Christmas at Disneyland

disneyland-christmas-decorations-hd-wallpapers

I mean yes, sure, I HAVE gone to Disneyland when I was 4 (which is, to this day, the best day ever) but I want to spend Christmas there. Just once. With some friends. It’ll be like a magical place where dreams come true where I get to dress up as a princess for a day COMBINED with the joy of Christmas giving. WHAT could be more cheerful than that?

5. Attend a Masquerade Ball

tumblr_m78tg7MDAO1rb6sylo1_500

I saw this movie once when I was really young and I dont really remember it, except that there was a masquerade ball in it. I remember being absolutely fascinated by the idea. Only much later though, did I know what they were called but its really caught on to me as a child and I would really love to attend one.

6.  Write A Book

736155615_1376189483

I’m in the process of this one. I am writing a book, I’ve got the idea together and everything but what with all this schoolwork and soccer practice, I cant always make out time for it. But I will definitely do it someday, though.

7. Learn to play the Drums

tumblr_m3a2f4HYR91qzup4jo1_500

I’ve always admired people who could and I’ve always wanted to learn but never really got round it. I think the rhythm and the beat are the most important part of a song, so this a must-do.

8. Party all night

a4abcb5a4a65e7cb_tumblr_lnwl00L3Wv1qklgmpo1_500_large

This one sounds sort of rude, but thats not what I mean. I mean to say like, go to a club or a concert and party through the night and into the morning, just jam to some music with some friends. That would be a first.

9. Go to Times Square and/or the Walk Of Fame

city-kodak-new-york-photography-times-square-Favim.com-57959

I know what a complete stereotyped weirdo I sound like, but come-on, look at that view! *swoon* I wanna, I wanna and I’m gonna.

10. Ride a camel/elephant

tumblr_lz8taccmTS1qz7t0xo1_1280

Maybe its just me and my obsession with unusual animals but how amazing would it be to go on a safari of some sort and ride one of those? Imagine the view from up there!

tumblr_mnogxw4iWz1rk5x5go1_500

Thats it for now! This is just part 1, I’m probably going to be adding a lot more stuff as it comes along in my head. You can always give me some of your suggestions as well. You know where to reach me! Bye for now!

Stay beautiful
