8 Ways To Avoid Frizzy Hair

Now I don’t know about you guys, but where I am, summer heat is causing the humidity to wreak some real havoc to my hair. If I let it, I would look like Fraggle all day. So, if any of you were wondering how to deal with frizzy hair, you’ve come to the right place!

♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡

1. Apply coconut or olive oil to your hair before washing it

Using oil on your hair the night before you wash it off can help seriously moisturize and repair your hair, causing less of a mess.

2. Avoid straightening too much

Hair specialists say that over-processing your hair can cause it to become brittle and damamged, leading to more frizziness.

3. Use a bit of smoothing serum to damp hair

Using a small amount of hair serum can lock in moisture and avoid dryness and frizzy hair.

4. Use your fingers

After showering, use your fingers to comb through wet hair, or maybe wide-toothed comb.

5. Be natural

Let your hair dry naturally. Avoid blow-drying it.

6. Use a conditioner with protein

Damage in hair shaft and static electricity cause puffiness and frizziness of hair. Protein-infused conditioners help combat this.

How To Get Fit This Summer

“I wanna look fit this summer.”

We’ve heard it all before – from our friends, family and even ourselves, but somehow we never seem to get around to it. It’s hard to motivate yourself to get off the couch, switch off your laptop and start working out. Keeping fit and looking and feeling healthy and strong are not easy and it’s a long road. But you’ve got to get started. For your sake. Teenagers nowadays are unhealthier than ever with obesity rates sky-rocketing.

Studies say that you need to get at least an hour of exercise in your daily schedule. That may seem like a lot, but you don’t have to do mundane exercises. You could do sports or activities you enjoy (like dance!) for an hour to keep fit.

♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡

1. Create a Work-out Playlist

Exercising can be stressful and even more so when you have nothing to distract yourself with. Fast-paced music (urban, dubstep, pop, etc) are great for work-outs because they distract you from what you’re doing. So don’t forget to create a playlist that makes you want to move!

♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡

2. Do what you love

You don’t have to go to the gym if you don’t feel like it. Do an activity you enjoy. Whether that’s football, dancing, swimming, basketball or track, do what you love so that exercise won’t feel like a burden. Rather, you’ll have fun with it!

♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡

3. Bring your friends along

Everything seems that much more fun when you have friends to keep you company. Get some like-minded friends to work out with. Not only will your competitive spirit make you want to do as good (if not better) as them but you’ll also have a great time while you’re at it!

P.S. Investing in cute (non-expensive!) work-out clothes are also a great motivation!

♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡

4. Burn baby burn

Get 60 minutes of cardio most days of the week – something that increases your heart rate and breathing. Don’t be afraid to break a sweat (or a nail)! Eating healthy and clean (no junk food, no soda!) as well as exercising are the killer combo that will have you looking fabulous in no time. Drinking loads of water is also a must not only to digest all your food and fend off acne but also to avoid dehydration during an intense work-out.

♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡

5. Strength Training

Building your bones is also super important. You don’t want to be fighting of osteoporosis when you’re older. For this, you’re going to have to pump some iron. At least two times a week, you need to lift weight that pushes you to your limits on the last couple of reps.

♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡

6. Crunch Time!

It’s not unheard of to want a flat stomach. In fact, most of us watch Kaley Cuoco in jealousy wishing we looked as fit as her (is that just me? I dunno). Bicycle crunches, leg lifts, planks, crunches and side twists are great ways to work out your abdominal area. Aim for 10 to 20 reps for 4 to 5 sets.

♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡

Most of all, you should just have fun with whatever you’re doing. Also, remember that loving yourself and your body and accepting it is very crucial. You aren’t exercising because you hate your body. You’re doing it to feel better.

Remember not to starve yourself in order to lose weight because the objective is not a thigh gap but to be fit. That is in no way the same thing as being skinny, and to be honest, girls with thigh gaps and skeleton-and-skin look sort of scary and ugly, if you ask me. Remember to stay healthy and ask for help and suggestions from your doctor and parents before you start!

From Croatia, With Love

“The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”

Most recently, I visited Croatia with my family to catch a break from all the stress life’s been throwing at us lately. Moreover I made an effort not to go to an over-advertised tourist city this time. From London to Paris to Rome to Milan. You name it, I’ve been there. But hardly ever have I been to a country where the aura was quite so relaxed as Croatia’s was. I instantly fell in love.

I firmly believe that wherever one goes, one must go with all their heart. Wanderlust drew me to as many of its cities as I could visit in a week and a half. First stop, Zagreb. Untainted artistic beauty.

From it’s beaches to its nightlife, this city had me totally blown away. All I know was that I had never seen a place that unbelievably fascinating. It was miraculous, the way this city bewitched me.

The thing that caught me most was the Museum of Broken Relationships, which was an establishment unlike any other in the world. It housed relics and information about failed relationships of common Croatians, who had donated these to the museum.

Coming to Croatia in the summer was like inspiration. Night time is when Croatia came alive. Under starry covers is when all the magic happened. Next stop: Plitvice. Here is where we went on an exotic 8 km hike and got pelted with hailstones. Truly an unforgettable experience.

Last stop: Split. From the Croatian National Theatre to amazing football stadiums and arenas, the streets of this city were full to bursting with lively energy.

Until next time!

What Makes You Indispensable

Most of you guys are, like me, about an age where planning your future is starting to become essential. You prepare, dream, and work for your goals and hope that it’s all getting you somewhere. But, most you guys are, like me, also probably at least a bit lost and afraid. Whether it’s of the unexplained change the future might bring, the things you don’t know about or beating the competition. It’s all new and big and scary and hurts my head to think about it sometimes.

At such times, thinking about how to stand out from a crowd, separating yourself from the sea of other faces becomes the next pragmatic thought process. Making yourself an indispensable member of whatever organisation or team you plan to join is not easy. Everybody else is trying to do it – you’re not the only one. But you need to be.

However I think there are some ways in which you can make yourself marketable to your potential employers or colleges (excluding being a sycophant). They’re not very easy but definitely achievable targets that one can aim towards to stick out.

1. Upgrade your skills

The best way, I think, to stay marketable is to avoid being stale and out-dated. Keeping your knowledge and skill set current, fresh and relevant can greatly enhance your marketability. This may include upgrading your communication skills or technological know-how but it is a smart investment for your future. The more you’re willing to learn and open up to the idea of improvement, the better your chances are out there. Strengthening your abilities and qualifications (or gaining new ones!) increases your value greatly. Make sure to stay on top by being informed and anticipating what skills your potential employers deem important for the future.

2. Be Flexible

In an ever-dynamic world with a diverse job-market, being flexible is crucial. Keep an open mind. It builds a good reputation for you as a well-connected and necessitous worker.

I hope this helps any of you guys who, like me, were wondering what the most marketable skills were that one needed to make one indispensable in the job market.

This post was inspired by Webucator.com ‘s Ask Series as part of their “Most Marketable Skill” Campaign.

I Challenge You

Today’s post is all about dreams. And challenges, of course.

I was sitting on the edge of my bed yesterday wondering about what on Earth I would blog about that everybody who read this could relate to and suddenly it hit me. What is the one thing that everybody on the planet has in common? We all have dreams. Some are big, some are small, some are crazy and some are life-changing. But they’re all possible. Everybody wants to achieve something, to live in a better world. In any case, today, all I’m here to say is that whether your dream is to beat somebody at arm-wrestling, ace your exams or end world hunger, it is possible.

Live Your Dreams

Source : liveyour-dr3ams.tumblr.com

You just have to believe in it. No, it’s not going to easy. You know that, and if you don’t, you should. It’s hard to motivate yourself to work hard, because anybody can dream but to work to make your dreams a reality is another ball-game altogether.

My mum always says that if you want to get something, you always had to give something in return. There are no free lunches. You’re going to have to work really hard, be determined to see your work through to the end, come what may, and you’ve got to donate your time, effort and blood, sweat and tears on this mission. It’s a tough world out there, with millions like you trying to make it big.

Live your dreams!

Source : weheartit.com

You’re going to face disappointment, you’re going to experience failure and you’re almost definitely going to want to give up at one point or another. But no matter how you feel, you need to push on, because that success story, that vision of victory that’s playing in your head, that is possible, and it can happen to you. Greatness is your calling. Own it.

Dream High

Source : weheartit.com

Some people live there whole life in a trance – just doing the things everyone else is doing, going the places everyone else is going and hence achieving the things in life that everyone else has already achieved. So, obviously, when you stick out, when you take risks, when you try to be different, you will face discouragement. Don’t fall prey to the everyday gossip of the everyday person. They’re just a face in the crowd of all the people that look exactly like them. No matter what, don’t give up until you win.

Dream Your Dreams

So today, I challenge you.

I challenge you to have the courage to follow your dreams, no matter how hard it is.

Plan your goals

I challenge you to drown out the noise of the crowd and believe in and trust yourself above all others.

I'm doing this.

I challenge you to love yourself before you love anybody else.

Those who work

I challenge you to invest in yourself – your mind, your body and your personality.

Don't quit now

I challenge you to create yourself.

Earn your success

I challenge you to keep going.

But above all, I challenge you to never give up on yourself.

Because, in the end, you’re all you have anyway.

Teen Suicide And What I’ve Learnt From It

Recently, I’ve had one my classmates attempt suicide and it really changed my life. You wouldn’t think so, because we were never close but this sort of thing always scars you a little. Obviously, when I got the news, I was shocked. ‘Why in the world would she want to kill herself?’ and such obvious questions popped into my mind but then it isn’t like I’d never though along those lines ever.

There was a time when I felt that my life was so bad and out of control that I wondered if it was really worth it at and why I couldn’t just end it all. But the sob-story’s all behind me now and the lessons I’ve learnt are some of the most important I think I’ll ever know.

First of all, the thing about suicide is that nobody actually wants to die. People just feel like they’re in a bad place or situation in life and looking for an escape because it’s all too overwhelming and impossible to handle. They want relief from the depressing thoughts that ceaselessly haunt them and they don’t know any other way out.

Now, although I’m a firm believer in the fact that only you can save yourself, I think the best thing to do in case you’re a teenager with suicidal thoughts is too consult an adult, parent or counselor. It may seem unendurable and embarrassing but it’s better than ending your life.

No matter what‘s going on with your right now, what you’ve done and what you’re facing, it won’t be something you’re alone in. It’s all been done before and there’s someone out there who’s going through the same things you are. You’re not alone and talking it out with someone mature and calm will help you.

The only reason you’re feeling the way you are is because you’re focusing way too hard on the negative aspects of your situation. You’re emphasizing on everything that’s wrong in your life in your mind instead of thinking of the exact opposite. You may not see it now, but there are so many people that would be devastated if you were gone.

Apart from getting help, I’ve tried to put together a list of positive distractions that may be of some help to you.

1. Type aimlessly about anything you want until you feel better

2. Go outside for a walk or a jog

3. Go to a cafe and sit outside with a cup of tea or coffee

4. Dress nice (it’s proven to make you feel better about yourself…no more PJ Days!)

5. Force yourself to smile at those you see and enjoy the feeling of being smiled at.

6. Focus on the little things in everyday life that bring you joy

7. Pick up a hobby you love and invest in it

8. Put together some D.I.Y. Projects

9. Bake or cook a meal

10. Take a bubble bath and light incense

11. Compliment yourself

12. Realize that you’re strong and that everything will be OK

That’s all for now I think, but before I pen off, I’d like to list out some websites you should definitely check out if you’re considering suicide. Just click here, here or here!

Just remember this: You are important. You are beautiful. You are loved.

10 Things Guys Should Know About Girls

There are many things guys should know about girls. But being the ignorant twats (totally a term of endearment) they are, they don’t. So let me spell it out for you guys so you get it. You’re welcome.

1. Girls hint

Girls don’t like flat-out saying what we want. We want you to figure out what we want by dropping hints. And guys almost never get it. Which sucks. So stop being ignorant and pay attention to what a girl is saying so you’ll get the hint she’s trying to give you. It’s that simple.

2. Girls believe in fate

Girls have watched Disney and/or Nicholas Sparks or whatever else they blame for having high romantic standards. So they like to believe in fate, destiny and true love. Just go with it. Don’t crush our high.

3. Girls like to be serenaded

It’s just a fact of life. We don’t care if you like it. But you better.

4. We’re just like you (well, almost)

Just like you don’t like hearing about our exes, we hate hearing about yours. It’s just not worth it, so don’t.

5. We like it when you look at us

Yeah. Pretty self explanatory.

6. Girls aren’t complicated

Contrary to popular belief (or not, I wouldn’t know) girls are not complicated. Give us what we want and we all go home happy.

7. We hate your games

We don’t like your mind games. In fact, we hate them. Grow up and stop playing. You’re going to end up losing anyway.

8. We have bad days

It’s just not our day sometimes. Nothing’s going right and we feel like hot messes. Understand and respect that. It happens. Deal with it.

9. We all care about how we look

No matter what we say, we all care if we look presentable. Therefore, it is your job to tell us how we look (which is beautiful all the time, because, let’s be honest, girls are goddamn gorgeous). Not that we need your validation, it’s just your opinion makes us feel better.

10. But not as much as our personality

We want to hear about how beautiful we look but not as much we want to hear how amazing we are. Tell us we’re confident and kind and sweet. We love it.

That is all.

Rules of Social Media

When it comes to social media, not all of us are as into its functioning as others. There are lots of different types of people on the internet. Some are professional, some are amateurs; some use it all the time, some rarely visit it. However, no matter what sort of people they are, there are some who just don’t know what to do (and what is acceptable) on social media.

And so, here are some rules of social media that everyone should know and follow.

1. Do NOT over-share

Yeah, we all know someone who constantly bitches about other people online or talks about their teachers (or bosses) and parents in poor light on social media. Here’s a news-flash to you people, that is not cool. We look at your updates and think “Really? Did you just stoop that low?”

In fact, that is the exact way you lose peoples’ respect for you. Stop trying to diss people online. Just, stop.

2. Do not share weird pictures

OK, keeping in mind you have your parents (or children), your teachers (or bosses), etc on your social media platform and not just your friends, you just cannot post anything you want. It’s just not nice waking up and seeing a revealing or awkward or weird picture of someone you respect online. Either change your privacy settings or don’t post those things. Otherwise, it’s just gonna end up being awkward for you to explain.

3. Beware of what you ‘retweet’ or ‘like’ or (whatever)

Keep in mind people can see the things you retweet and the pages you follow. You may like/be attracted to/obsessed with something or someone, or maybe have a weird fetish (and that’s fine, it’s totally your call), but maybe it’s not worth sharing with the world. Unless its socially acceptable, maybe you should keep it to yourself to avoid yourself the embarrassment. We don’t wanna be like :

4. Do NOT overdo the selfie

It’s perfectly OK to take pictures of yourself (when nobody is around to do it for you). But when you’re

a) making a stupid facial expression (duckface) and/or,

b) revealing more of your body than we need or want to see

then it’s not worth putting onto social media. Not everyone wants to see what you look like when you’re half naked or when you have brain transplants with a duck.

5. Don’t mess up the language

To people who do this,

Why do you do it?!

I’m sorry, but at the risk of sounding like a Grammar Nazi, I would like to tell all you children who don’t know what ‘spelling’, ‘grammar’ and ‘punctuation’ is, go get a damn dictionary or go back to primary school. Trying to decode your texts is going to be that much easier if you use your senses when you’re typing.

6. Don’t give us too much information

There are some people who turn every little happening in their life into an event. Having lunch? Let me post that. Drinking coffee? Instagram that. Going to the mall? Let me tweet about it. Watching TV? Tumblr’s the answer.

Have you ever thought about the fact that maybe, just maybe, we don’t care? I’m sure that coffee was life-changing and your TV serial was oh-so-sensational, but we don’t need to hear everything about your day. There is such a thing as TMI (Too Much Information), you know.

What to do when you’re feeling down…

Life’s not easy. Noone ever said it was and you better stop believing it. It’s just not that way. You don’t always win. You have bad days. In fact, sometimes you have terrible days. Days that make you feel like giving up – packing your bags and going home because none of this crap is worth it.

But wait.

It gets better. I shit you not, it gets better. You’ve just got to keep at it.

Believe me when I say this, but it  does get better. I’ve been there, and I’ve done that. But this isn’t about my sob story, no. This is about what I learnt at the end. The thing about life is that nothing is permanent. The good times? Temporary. Bad times? Temporary. Things will change and life will come back round.

Just remember,

See, it’s all about the long run. You don’t want to have lived your life and at the end, feel like it was all a massive struggle. You want, at the end, for it too feel like you were happy. People are going to say mean things to bring you down, and bad things will inevitably happen. But you’ve just got to get up in the morning and ask yourself this :

No. You’re not. Because you’re better and stronger than that. You have a self-respect and opinion of yourself that nobody in the world can change. And to the people who bring you down you say,

Because clearly, you don’t need people like that in your life. They’re never going to help you out and you’ll never feel any better or become any better of a person with them. They will not challenge you and you just don’t need the extra baggage they bring.

Sometimes, you need to be a bit harsh on yourself too. Whenever bad thoughts start to take over, tell yourself:

There are people who’d be lost without you.

You are smart and thoughtful and kind and fun and beautiful and worth knowing. And all this coming from a person who doesn’t even know you. So, believe me when I say it, the people who have you in their life are lucky that they do. Because you’re a gem and you deserve every good thing that comes your way.

There are so many ways to pick yourself up when you feel down. One way, of course, is food.

Sing loudly and off-key. It doesn’t even matter. Just sing it out. You’ll feel better.

We all have guilty pleasures, don;t we, Taylor? Go ahead and do them for once.

Look through old pictures and relive those memories.

Do something ridiculous and funny with your best friend. Go out. Or stay in and wear mustaches all day, I dunno.

Go on a shopping spree. Go on.

And just remember that Tom Hiddleston says:

So whenever you feel like

SNAP OUT OF IT. You’re you. You’re alive. You’re worth it. And that’s better than anything else out there.

Stay amazing!
