I Need YOUR Help!

Hey guys!

I know I haven’t posted in absolutely AGES and I’m sorry but I’ve been extremely busy with all the exams coming up but I will be posting soon again so don’t hate me okay? 😀

There’s this Korean Boy Band that I really admire. They’re called EXO. Right now, they’re compiling a book of messages from their fans and they’ll only choose the top 550 most-liked messages for their book. I know I don’t understand any Korean but I really support them a lot and it would REALLY mean a lot to me if you guys went over to the links below and liked my messages.

Also, if you’re an EXO fan, feel free to leave a message for them as well!

Thanks again and remember to vote!

Reasons To Get Obsessed with Lorde

Every once in awhile, an artist shoots up to the top. Now, they may or may not actually be good, they may be a one-hit wonder but one thing I know about Lorde is that she.is.frigging.awesome! Here are some reasons why you should love her too. Because let’s be serious, we all needed an artist like her since Miley started twerking.

1. Her lyrics

Let’s be real, in this age where all songs are about boys, partying and drinking, Lorde’s lyrics are a breath of fresh air. They aren’t crap, which is saying something since she writes them on her own! She’s 17 for God’s sake. It’s amazing.

2. She’s feminist

FINALLY! A female artist who actually portrays feminine strength in her music. Someone who is finally sick of hearing women artists go “I’m nothing without you, Don’t leave me,” and all the rest. She believes in it and is strong enough to point out even big stars like Selena Gomez who she thinks are being non-feminist. It’s totally refreshing.

3. She can actually sing

Say goodbye to all the autotuned crap you’ve been listening to, because guess what? The music industry finally got a singer whose vocal chords don’t sound like shit without autotune!

4. She’s so totally normal

Unlike many celebrities that give off the whole unattainable and perfect vibe where their hair is never out of place and they’re always smiling and camera-ready with their gorgeous custom-made outfits, Lorde has a messy room, messy hair and a signature all-black outfit. Down-to-earth and not an egomaniac – that’s what we love.

5. She’s only 17

She’s just 17 years old and she’s already deeper, and more awesome than I’ll ever be. (Yeah, it’s kinda depressing). She’s already won 2 Grammy’s and she She’s from New Zealand and she’s a kick-ass performer.

6. She’s mature

She’s super mature for a high-schooler. It shines through her lyrics, the way she talks and hold herself. It’s sort of scary but so different.

So basically, she’s my queen.

I absolutely love her. If you haven’t already checked her out then you should go see her website!

Buy her album Pure Heroine!

Stay amazing!

Counting Stars : The Meaning Behind the Music

Almost everyone has heard this amazing hit by one of my all-time favourite bands, ‘OneRepublic‘, from their Native Album released last year. The song has taken the world for a spin – it topped charts in several countries and became one of the band’s most famous singles.

Even though the song was mind-blowing and catchy, the meaning behind the music is what caught me most about this song. It’s not a random mesh of words or just another song about partying and drinking like most pop songs nowadays are. It was pretty deep and I think Ryan Tedder (lead singer) did a really good job of it.

Everybody knows it’s easy finding a glamorous dream or passion you wanna follow, but it’s hard to achieve it. The road to your goal is filled with obstacles, not to mention a tonne of hard work and exhaustion. As such, people want distractions from all of it and tend to get easily side-tracked. This song was all about how addictions can get the better of you and how these very ‘distractions’ can make your success impossible – how they can sink you without a trace into the deep dark waters of broken dreams from which there is no return.

Some say the song is about a drug-addict and his struggle to give up the addiction for his loved one and his ultimate failure to do so, leading to his loved one leaving him. Others say it is about a man’s wish to be able to provide for his loved one in a time of financial crisis. Either way, he seems to be unsuccessful as the thought of his failure keeps him awake at night and makes him loose sleep.

Basically, the song is about the hopeless want of a better life even though all personal attempts have been in vain. This song is a beauty and I truly loved listening to it. Make sure to buy OneRepublic’s album Native if you haven’t already!

Stay amazing!

Music This Week : Tonight Alive

So recently, my twin sister made me listen to this song ‘Lonely Girl’ by Tonight Alive. I’d never heard of either the song or that band, and I pretty much assumed it was going to be like all her other favourite songs (she has a weird taste in music) and braced myself.

I didn’t hate it. I was so surprised when I didn’t only NOT hate it but actually found myself enjoying it. There’s a lot of loud singing, sure, but the music and lyrics made me want to dance (of course I didnt because I’d started out telling my sister that I was going to hate it and when I didnt, I didnt want to see that smug look on her face. You’d get it if you had a twin. Or a sibling, in general).

Needless to say, as soon as she’d left I proceeded to excessively stalk the band and find out everything there was to know about them (duh.) Here’s what I could deduce – they’re an Australian band of five formed in 2008. Most of their music is punk or pop, I suppose. They’ve worked with All Time Low (love them!), Radio Drive By, Simple Plan (obssessed with them), We are in the Crowd and many others. Their self-funded album All Shapes and Diguises released about 3 years ago, sold 1000s of copies in Australia and Japan.

Two years ago, the band travelled to LA and recorded their debut album What Are You Scared Of?

Anyway, they’re definitely on the rise and they have an amazing voice (oh and heads up, their drummer and lead guitarist are gorgeous; you’re welcome). Their lead vocalist is Jenna McDoughall and she has a very strong, dominating and steady voice I really love.

Keep your head high!

Fresh Faces (Special Request) : PW

So, I just recently heard of this song by PW (stands for Pee Wee, which is just his stage name, real name being Akheim Allen) called ‘Here With You’ from a friend of mine, and I just HAD to blog about it. (I’m so sure this song is going to be stuck in my head tomorrow morning). Its just this amazing mix of hip hop and garage and has this laid back and chilled out party vibe that just makes you want to dance.

If you don’t know PW, you have GOT to check him out, like, NOW. He’s a British rapper and hip hop artist who’s been on the rise, especially since 2011, when he got nominated for a BEFFTA. After which, he realeased 2 singles in 2012 and has had countless online magazine interviews (including appearing on the cover of ‘Young Voices’ in March, which, if you don’t know, is a British Magazine).

He has already supported many big names like Dappy, Mindless Behaviour and Conor Maynard all over the UK. His dedication and undeniable talent definitely deserve a moment in the spotlight. It won’t be too long when you’ll be seeing him on magazine covers, the way he’s going!

Music This Week : Katy Perry

So this week, I;ve been obssessed with Katy Perry’s new single ‘Roar’ and I doubt there’s anyone out there who hasn’t heard it. Its the lead single for her upcoming fourth studio album, Prism. The song made its radio debut on the 10th of August and was released to iTunes and YouTube two days after that. I believe she herself co-wrote the song along with Dr.Luke, Max Martin and others. ‘Roar’ peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and also topped the charts in the UK, Canada, Australia, and Ireland. Many compared her 8th hit single to her 2010 single ‘Firework’.

I found the song not only catchy and totally power pop, but also inspirational. It talks about standing up for yourself and having courage and strength. Katy says that the song is about ‘discovering the power within yourself’. Its sort of a a fierce, fun song with a personal and powerful touch. All in all, its an amazing song, one of her best for sure.

Pre order ‘Prism’ on iTunes!

Keep your head up,

Music This Week : Miley Cyrus

So everyone knows about Miley’s big VMA turnout. When I watched the video myself, I was quite shocked. But then hey, I guess she has the right to go a little bit nuts (not that she had to show it at the VMAs but…) what with her messed up relationship with Hollywood hottie Liam Hemsworth.

Wrecking Ball – Miley Cyrus

Getting to her music, who’s heard her new single ‘Wrecking Ball’? It was released August end, I believe. Was it just me, or was the song directed at Liam? Anyway, relationships aside, this song has been stuck in my head all week! Those who haven’t heard it, you have absolutely NO IDEA what you’re missing out on! I swear, the song is addictive. I love the way that this song reminds me of Miley’s earlier music. Not that her music now isn’t good, but its a bit inappropriate for the young people that listen to her. I’ve given the YouTube link for it below so be sure to check it out, its absolutely amazing! Also, you can pre-order her album ‘Bangerz’ on iTunes.
