I know I haven’t posted in absolutely AGES and I’m sorry but I’ve been extremely busy with all the exams coming up but I will be posting soon again so don’t hate me okay? 😀

There’s this Korean Boy Band that I really admire. They’re called EXO. Right now, they’re compiling a book of messages from their fans and they’ll only choose the top 550 most-liked messages for their book. ♡ My Summer Reading List ♡

This summer, I’ve (finally) had a lot of time to catch up on my reading. My list had been growing pretty long before that, so thank god summer came ’round. Here are the books I’ve been loving this summer, and hopefully, you will too.

1. Ignite Me

The third book in the ‘Shatter Me‘ series by Tahereh Mafi, this book was jaw-dropping. From heart-warming romance to thrilling adventure, this book left me reeling for more. I can actually and truthfully say that it was un-put-down-able (that’s probably not a word). I read it from cover to cover in just 24 hours and let me just say, my feels have not yet recovered. Definitely the top on this list.

2. Mad About The Boy

Another Bridget Jones book, finally! This is the third one in the series by Helen Fielding and was the perfect summer beach read (which is, incidentally, where I read it). Jones is back almost 2 decades later with two kids and several more misadventures. All in all, amazing.

3. 12 Years A Slave

Until this years’ Academy Awards came about, I had no idea that a book like this was ever written, not to mention over a century ago by Solomon Northup! So of course, I ended up reading (and loving) it! Written by a free black man in America, this book will give you the shivers (of delight, of course).

4. Landline

This book by Rainbow Rowell was surprisingly good. I was of the opinion that there are only this many tragic divorce books you could read before getting sick of them, but I was (not for the first time) mistaken. An amazing read about a woman who realizes that her love for her husband is not enough to save their marriage.

5. The Book Thief

A mind blowing novel by Markus Zusak, this book had me totally caught. It is, in short, the story of a young girl who is sent off to a foster family in Germany as World War 2 breaks out. Being a great lover of books makes her ‘The Book Thief’. Truly a well-written masterpiece.

6. Revenge Wears Prada

This long-awaited sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada‘ by Lauren Weisberger did not disappoint (unlike most sequels which are a diluted mush of their more famous prequels). The claws-out rivalry is back, and its wearing high-end designers.

From India, With Love

And I’m finally back! How’s everybody’s summer going? I don’t know about yall, but that trip to India was exactly what I needed. I feel so refreshed and I’m ready to get back to business. I made so many friends and memories there. Exotic is not a strong enough word to describe it.

I ended up going to 4 places in India. First, of course, it’s capital, Delhi.

It was an amazing city and all I did was shopped till I dropped. There’s no dearth of malls and the exploding variety in Delhi. I was totally floored.

The night life in Delhi was a sight to behold. The energetic vibe was all you needed to get high off the atmosphere. It was enough to keep me going all night! All in all, Delhi was just astounding.

Next stop, Lucknow. Now, unlike Delhi, this was not a metropolis. It was more of a cultural city. It’s rich heritage and history was palpable in every street, building and monument.

Museums, parks and architectural sites filled me with so much wonder and I gained a lot of unforgettable information about this ancient city’s past. I was pleasantly surprised at the kindness, generosity and friendly nature of the people in this city and I was less than willing to leave.

After that I flew to Mumbai, the city where all the magic happens. They say Mumbai is the city of opportunities. Where everyone gets a second chance. It is an industrial hub. Luckily for me, it rained a lot in the few days that I visited, so it kept me from being too homesick. It was a very busy city with so many people with so many stories. In one word? Incredible.

And last but definitely not the least, the highlight of my trip, Goa. This was, without a doubt, my favourite place in India. With its unending and refreshing greenery, rolling hills and breathtaking lakes and beaches, it was certainly a sight to behold.

From cruises to improptu flash dances and the fun and frolic that the peoples’ vibes emit, this place was unforgettable.

Not to be outdone culturally, Goa also offered a variety of forts, museums and churches brimming with interesting historical backgrounds.

And let’s not forget the stretches of beach and all the fun that comes with it!

And believe me, you have not truly lived until you have ridden an actual elephant. My mind was literally blown.

I even went kayaking, hiking and paddle-boating! Not to mention, the churches and museums. Only Goa could make field-trip-like spots like that interesting.

Of Summer and Off-Days

Summer break is here and I’ve been having the time of my life.

From going to the mall with friends, hanging out at the pool and the club to having gaming and movie nights as well as late night FIFA matches (GO GERMANY!!) with friends, it’s been one hell of a ride. Such a relief after the hectic year I’ve been having.

I’ve been attempting to be healthier – drinking more water, trying to cut down on the bleeding soda and chocolates (so hard!) and exercising an hour a day hasn’t been easy but I’ve been doing the best I can. It’s been worth it, though. Or at least that’s what I’ve been telling myself.

I have really GOT to start packing. This Friday (the 11th of July), I will be visiting Goa, India, and I probably won’t be able to write till early August as I will be touring India. I will be documenting it all in a post for you guys when I’m back, though, so don’t worry!

After visiting all of Europe (Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, France, United Kingdom, Vatican City and Croatia!) and Africa (Mauritius), I think it was only fair that Asia was next on my list. The only Asian country I’ve ever visited is Singapore and it totally blew me away, so India promises to be exotic and amazing. I can’t wait!

Things You Need To Do Before You Die : Part 1

Most people, I’m sure, already have a bucket list. Whether its weird, detailed, long, wacky or daring, everyone has basically compiled a list of things they want to do, people they want to see, or places they want to go before they kick that proverbial bucket.

As I sat making my own the other day, I thought, why not make the bucket list official? That way, I’ll be forced to accomplish at least half of the things on it (damn you peer pressure!) So, in case you need a little inspiration to kick off or expand yours, here are a few things on my bucket list.

1. Visit all the continents (well, maybe except maybe Antarctica)

It’s probably no secret at this point that I absolutely LOVE to travel. Seeing new places, doing new things and learning of new cultures and languages are just some things that provide me with that extra buzz to life. So of COURSE this had to the first thing on the list. So far, I’ve visited every continent except North and South America. *sigh*

2. Learn to Skateboard

I don’t know, it’s just a skill I’ve always admired in other people, and, I mean, how bad could I suck right? *trips on straight floor*

3. Be on TV

I mean, I’ve already been on the news before but being on TV is so much more real somehow, you know?

4. Buy my dad a car

I want to do this for Fathers’ Day or something (when I’m not broke, aka when I get a job). It’s just something I’ve always dreamed of doing.

5. Learn how to ride a horse

I mean I’ve ridden one at a carnival before but that was when the trainer was LITERALLY holding the reins and basically walked the horse around the field once. That doesn’t count. I want to learn to ride for real.

6. Plant 17 Trees

I don’t know why it’s 17 but it just is. If you know me at all, you know that I basically have a black thumb, meaning I can’t grow shit. Not even weeds. So this is something I need to accomplish.

7. Learn how to dance

I’m not even exaggerating, I actually suck at dancing. I just can’t dance. I mean I am the prestigious inventor of the chicken dance (thank you, thank you) but apart from that, niet.

8. Be the boss

Maybe it’s just me, but our whole lives as teenagers we’ve been forced and pushed around. Whether it’s by our teachers, parents or peers. Wanting to be the boss is only natural. You can see where I’m going with this.

9. Write a novel

I just, I want to, I never seem to have the time. But I will. One day.

10. Go clubbing every night for a week

Considering I’ve never even been to a club once, this promises to be interesting.

11. Learn to play the drums

OK, I’m just being ambitious here (because I already know how to play the guitar, piano and clarinet) but I want to learn how to play the drums. I just want to.

12. Teach someone something useful

I don’t know, it’s probably not a calling or anything, I just want to teach a person in need something they find useful. I dunno.

5 Reasons Why I Love Anime

Right off the bat, I want to set one thing straight. If you’re one of those people who thinks that ‘anime’ is just another word for ‘cartoons’ or thinks that anime are ‘childish’, then this is not the post for you. Stop reading right now, and click away to something else, because this post is going to be (yet another) fangirl session for me.

1. Japanese Culture

Maybe it’s just me, but nothing has ever quite fascinated me as much, or captured me quite as quickly and completely as the Japanese culture has. It’s language and history captivate me to be honest, so what’s not to love about anime? I’ve learnt quite a bit of Japanese just from watching the oodles of anime that I do, and I get so excited by the prospect of visiting the Land of The Rising Sun (I’m going there next summer) that I can barely sit still as I think about it.

2. The Characters

Whether it’s because they’re adorable with their big eyes and endearing hairdos or because of how relate-able some of the them (their personalities, feelings and situations) are, I absolutely and unconditionally LOVE anime characters. There are so many of them I get introduced to in each new anime I watch and they’re like my (HUGE) second family.

3. The presentation

I don’t know how the Japanese producers seem to so seamlessly pull this off, but the world of anime is so real and at the same time so not. Let me explain. The way that the most absurd and unrealistic anime (like Naruto, Sword Art Online, One Piece, Bakugon, Pokemon) where things like that would be totally impossible in the real world are presented so that you feel that you’re the unrealistic intruder in their very real world is just mind-blowing. When I watch anime, I feel so entranced in their little worlds, realistic or otherwise. The ‘real world’ fails to exist. Its that good.

4. The Otaku World

Once you become a fan of anime, you become part of a very elite group of amazingly creative and smart people. Most of these anime fans/otakus are such great people and they’re so great to have fangirling sessions and talks with. Some of the fan art my otaku friends from across the world create are just breathtaking. Like seriously, the Otaku world is an alternate reality I could live in forever with no regrets.

5. The Unending Variety

The great thing you find while hunting for anime is that there is no dearth of options. I mean seriously. Each story line, each plot is so different from its predecessor that you couldn’t possibly be bored. From comedy, romance, adventure, sports and mystery to slice-of-life, shojo, school, shonen, action, josei and parody – you have a plethora of options from which to choose. Theres probably literally an anime for every mood.

And it doesn’t just end there. There’s manga, cosplay and chibi too!

You’re A Fighter

Yes, you read that right. You’re a fighter, and don’t you ever forget it. Life may be tough right now but you’ll get there. You’ll make it, I promise. I believe you can do it. You have what it takes. I see it in you – you have the power to do whatever you imagine. You’re smart enough, pretty enough, tough enough to make it through.

God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. Hang in there. Don’t give up now. Not quite yet. Just a little bit longer. Just a little bit harder. You’re getting there. You’re on your way to victory. You don’t always need a clear-cut plan, a laid out map to tell you exactly which way to go. Sometimes you need to just trust your instincts and keep going – see what happens. You might even surprise yourself.

Create a vision for your life. Do something you love. Do something that makes you want to jump out of bed every morning. This fight is worth it, and so are you. These battle scars are only making you stronger. Do whatever it takes to see your dreams through.

The walls that you see that separate you from your dreams are meant to see how badly you want to achieve this. They’re not meant for you. They’re meant for the other people who don’t want it badly enough.

It’s a revolution – the time has come for you to win. Don’t give up now when victory’s so close. You can beat this. I see the fighter in you, dying to break out. Breathe, take a break. Get back at it. Don’t lose sight of the finish line, you’re so close.

Don’t let it get you down, if you don’t make it the first time. You have your whole life ahead of you to prove yourself, so stop beating yourself up. Promise me you’ll smile today. Promise?

How To Get Fit This Summer

“I wanna look fit this summer.”

We’ve heard it all before – from our friends, family and even ourselves, but somehow we never seem to get around to it. It’s hard to motivate yourself to get off the couch, switch off your laptop and start working out. Keeping fit and looking and feeling healthy and strong are not easy and it’s a long road. But you’ve got to get started. For your sake. Teenagers nowadays are unhealthier than ever with obesity rates sky-rocketing.

Studies say that you need to get at least an hour of exercise in your daily schedule. That may seem like a lot, but you don’t have to do mundane exercises. You could do sports or activities you enjoy (like dance!) for an hour to keep fit.

1. Create a Work-out Playlist

Exercising can be stressful and even more so when you have nothing to distract yourself with. Fast-paced music (urban, dubstep, pop, etc) are great for work-outs because they distract you from what you’re doing. So don’t forget to create a playlist that makes you want to move!

2. Do what you love

You don’t have to go to the gym if you don’t feel like it. Do an activity you enjoy. Whether that’s football, dancing, swimming, basketball or track, do what you love so that exercise won’t feel like a burden. Rather, you’ll have fun with it!

3. Bring your friends along

Everything seems that much more fun when you have friends to keep you company. Get some like-minded friends to work out with. Not only will your competitive spirit make you want to do as good (if not better) as them but you’ll also have a great time while you’re at it!

P.S. Investing in cute (non-expensive!) work-out clothes are also a great motivation!

4. Burn baby burn

Get 60 minutes of cardio most days of the week – something that increases your heart rate and breathing. Don’t be afraid to break a sweat (or a nail)! Eating healthy and clean (no junk food, no soda!) as well as exercising are the killer combo that will have you looking fabulous in no time. Drinking loads of water is also a must not only to digest all your food and fend off acne but also to avoid dehydration during an intense work-out.

5. Strength Training

Building your bones is also super important. You don’t want to be fighting of osteoporosis when you’re older. For this, you’re going to have to pump some iron. At least two times a week, you need to lift weight that pushes you to your limits on the last couple of reps.

6. Crunch Time!

It’s not unheard of to want a flat stomach. In fact, most of us watch Kaley Cuoco in jealousy wishing we looked as fit as her (is that just me? I dunno). Bicycle crunches, leg lifts, planks, crunches and side twists are great ways to work out your abdominal area. Aim for 10 to 20 reps for 4 to 5 sets.

Most of all, you should just have fun with whatever you’re doing. Also, remember that loving yourself and your body and accepting it is very crucial. You aren’t exercising because you hate your body. You’re doing it to feel better.

Remember not to starve yourself in order to lose weight because the objective is not a thigh gap but to be fit. That is in no way the same thing as being skinny, and to be honest, girls with thigh gaps and skeleton-and-skin look sort of scary and ugly, if you ask me. Remember to stay healthy and ask for help and suggestions from your doctor and parents before you start!
